'Wedding Walk' at Cannon Hall, Barnsley
07th March 2009 - 0 comments
Following on from our Joe Cornish story...

Many of the attendees have come from a great distance away, some as far as South Wales and London!

So to make more of a day of it for those persons, dg-photography is hosting a 'Wedding Walk' at one of Barnsley's superb Wedding Venues, Cannon Hall

We'll be starting with what happens immediately after the Wedding Ceremony itself, and then having a walk around the grounds to discuss & share ideas for Shooting the happy couple and their Wedding party

Cannon Hall is one of our preferred venues as it has so many opportunities for photography from Romanesque buildings to ancient weathered walls, numerous gateways, a well kept pond & gardens, and some amazingly cropped fruit trees

Whether you're getting married at Barnsley's Cannon Hall or not, we'd strongly suggest you consider it as a venue for your outdoor Wedding Photography

And of course that you allow dg-photography the honour & pleasure of Shooting you there!

Joe Cornish event - 19th March 2009
06th March 2009 - 0 comments
Almost a year ago I asked one of the UK's top Landscape Photographers if he'd be prepared to come to Barnsley and give a presentation to local Camera Club members of his work, and specifically his work within the Yorkshire region

I'm pleased to say that not only did he think it a great idea, but despite some members initial concerns at the organisation and costs incurred - it has proven to be a resounding success with ALL tickets sold out

As Joe is a photographic 'celebrity' this has opened the door for other prestigious lecturers too, and we are already negotiating for next year's event

My thanks to Joe and to our local sponsors D&E Optics, and including Barnsley's Metrodome Leisure Centre - the venue for this year's Joe Cornish Seminar

We're all looking forward to a great evening

Hunni-Bee chooses dg-photography

This week we were delighted to be chosen as the preferred Barnsley based photographer for a full day Shoot at the Hunni-Bee Children's Centre, Hunningley Primary School, Hunningley Lane, Stairfoot, Barnsley, S70 3DT

We'll be set-up and ready to Shoot from 8.30 a.m. and available throughout the day for the 40+ families to pop in to have their wee tots Shot by dg

The date for the Shoot is Friday 27th March

Seeing as we normally take in excess of 30-40 shots per child, that's going to be a huge number of images for the day and an awful lot of smiling faces too

So if you're in the area, pop along and see us

1st Booking for 2011 !!!
21st January 2009 - 0 comments
Now I'm all for forward planning, but booking your Wedding for almost 3 years ahead (Oct 2011) is some advance planning in my book :)

That said though, we're currently booking up at a rate of just over 1 per week, so getting in early isn't such a daft idea now is it - especially if you want a Saturday !!!

This year too has seen more Sunday & Friday bookings than ever before

All good stuff

Thanks

Flying start to 2009 - thanks
10th January 2009 - 0 comments
At the start of every New Year you have to try to forecast when & where new enquiries will come from, and of course estimate their rate of Booking too with regards to income potential, service standards, etc.

So blow me down if 3 Wedding Bookings in 3 days hasn't already suggested the year's forecast could be way out !!! :)

Our Website continues to grow in the number of hits it gets each week, and is currently running at around 3,500 per week

We're also usually placed on page 1 of any Google search for Wedding Photography, or Child Photography where the words Barnsley or South Yorkshire are also used; so this has increased our area for consideration of Weddings in particular

We know photographers who'll travel 100 even 200 miles for a Wedding and we've just increased our maximum distance to around 20 - lol - but will consider further afield too, we may just need to add travel costs

So thanks to all our newest future Bride & Grooms for your support, and thank you too for inviting us to partake in your super special Wedding Day - it's not a 'job' but an Honour

Merry Christmas - Shoot you in 2009 ???
24th December 2008 - 0 comments
Well today's our last Shoot of the year, yep, on Christmas Eve too !!!

One of the best ways to stay 'sharp' and focussed on one's photography is to work with others, and today we're working on a dry-run Wedding with a photographer travelling over 100 miles to swap ideas and discuss contemporary Wedding techniques

Our aim... simple... to be the Best & Best Value Wedding Photographers Barnsley has to offer, and once achieved to stay in Pole Position thereafter

Forgive the arrogance, but I feel we're well on our way already !

2008 was a great year for us, we Shot more Weddings than any previous year and we have more booked for 2009, even 2010 already

Dates are Booking up fast - so if you're getting married in 2009 - call SOON !!!

Marry Christmas (deliberate pun) and have a wonderful and very Happy New Year

Cheers

David & Adele

Last minute rush for Christmas
18th December 2008 - 0 comments
This happens every year, everyone wants a Shoot & prints/canvasses for Christmas (which is great), and then contacts us AFTER the guaranteed deadline for Christmas delivery for prints & canvasses - lol

This year we've employed the services of a new printer for last minute prints & canvasses, and he's still producing them for us now and ALL will be in time for Christmas too - so a big round of applause goes out to them

Last, last, last possible now for a Shoot & prints for Christmas has been extended to lunchtime Saturday 20th !!!

Yep that late and we can still accommodate

Come 12.30 p.m. though, it's all over for 2008

Roll on 2009

Merry Christmas everyone
dg photo-courses - new for 2009
02nd December 2008 - 0 comments
Well as 2008 draws to a close it's useful to take a quick look back and see what happened !!!

Aside from a year of perfect (no bad weather) Wedding Photography, and having shot more Tots than an average school holds, one of the more interesting developments came through both direct & indirect requests for help & support in Training fellow Photographers in both Technique & Business aspects

Being involved with Training (both planning & presentation) for many years prior to becoming a Professional Photographer (and a Top Table guest speaker at national conference level) is a great background for someone wishing to help others in this fascinating and enjoyable career

If you are thinking about becoming a Professional Social Photographer (as in Weddings & Portraiture) and would like to register your interest now - please drop me an email to david@dg-photography.co.uk

You never know - there may well be a discount for the 'early-birds' :)

When Customers make you feel old !!!
27th November 2008 - 0 comments
Yesterday morning I dropped off 18 sets of DVDs for the parents of our Toddler Group Shoot last week, and chatted to one of the Group's helpers; while a pair of 17 yr old identical twins helped out nearby

"Do you remember we had a Child Photography session with you a while back?" Anita asked

"Err no, sorry" was my humble reply

"Well you Shot our twins just before their 1st birthday " she said, adding nicely, "and that photo is still taking pride of place above our fireplace"

"Great"
says I, "how long ago was that?"

Anita laughs... "Those are the twins helping out here now!!!"

My jaw fell to the floor - here they were, almost 17 yrs later - oh I feel old - LOL
WOW - biggest Toddler Shoot yet
23rd November 2008 - 0 comments
Last Wednesday saw the 2nd Shoot at the Salvation Army's, Royston, Toddler Group - where we had to dismantle the entire studio lighting, flooring & background and rebuild in one of their halls

But boy was it worth it... 29 kids in 18 groups Shot in just 3 1/2 hours for a total of 1,157 images captured !!!

This means each family will have around 70 images to enjoy and choose from for Christmas pressies, rather than the more usual 1 in those different 'School photo' packs, which are never much good and too expensive for many

Here's a selection of 9 images from the day... if your tots are at a Toddler Group and you'd like up to 70 Shots of them like these, call or email us and ask for our 'Toddler Group sample DVD'

Lucky Brollies - do it again !!!
17th November 2008 - 0 comments
"What a year of terrible weather we've had", other Photographer pals of ours often complain

Amazingly though, throughout the whole of rainy 2008 we've not had a single Wedding where the Bride & Groom as been rained on !!!

And this has to be down to our Lucky Brollies, which were bought in January 2008. These brollies have been everywhere with us; and although it's poured with rain on the day of the Wedding, and even during the Wedding when we were indoors or in cars travelling between venues, they have never been needed !!!

I tell all prospective Brides now that they only have to dance round these brollies 3x chanting their Wedding date and it's *Guaranteed not to rain

*though don't hold us to that! :)

Barnsley Town Hall wants our pictures
11th November 2008 - 0 comments
We love Shooting Weddings at Barnsley Town Hall, it's a fantastic building with real character and unlike many other venues locally it is actually light & airy enough to capture great photos within it. This makes it an ideal venue for any Barnsley Wedding Photographer to Shoot people in, and especially as it's also great when it rains!!!

Outside, the facade is also stunning, and by placing our couples close to the monument we can create a 'Killer Shot' - as one which defines both the Wedding venue and the time of one's Wedding

We are in contact with Town Hall regarding the use of some of our Wedding Photography (examples below) as this promotes Barnsley Town Hall so well (they feel); and, bizarrely, no other photographer seems to take these shots!!!

If you are looking for the ideal Wedding Venue in Barnsley, then from a Wedding Photographer's point of view - we'd have to recommend Town Hall

10th November 2008 - 0 comments
Well it seems that I'm being dragged into the 21st Century as it's been suggested I have a 'BLOG' - LOL

So here it is...

I'm pleased to say that presumably due to the volume of traffic and enquiries we get through this website, we're pretty much always on the 1st page of any Google search for "Wedding Photography Barnsley" & "Child Portraiture Barnsley" or variants thereof

Here's one of my fav shots from last week's Shoots - Jacob - barely 7 months!
